The Brief

Xero wanted the standout activation at Xerocon London — something that made AI feel personal, creative, and joyful rather than abstract and threatening. The experience had to be accessible to every type of attendee, from accountants to developers to founders, regardless of their relationship with technology.

The Challenge

Most AI activations at events in 2024 were demos: screens showing AI outputs with a presenter explaining what was happening. The brief called for something people could do themselves — and take home. The challenge was engineering a seamless creative experience from scratch: a pipeline that felt magical from the attendee's perspective while being technically robust enough to run for hundreds of participants across a multi-day conference. And doing it without asking anyone to sign up, log in, or surrender their data.

The Approach

A systematic end-to-end AI workflow was designed and built specifically for this activation. The process began with a short, engaging questionnaire — attendees answered a handful of questions about their personality, their business, and their mood. From there, the workflow took over.

ChatGPT handled narrative and lyric generation, crafting a song concept and lyrics tailored to each participant's answers. Suno then generated the actual music track — a fully produced piece of audio built from those lyrics and creative prompts. In parallel, Leonardo.AI powered the visual output, producing a unique AI-generated art piece that matched the musical identity. Every output was one-of-a-kind.

The final deliverables — a music track and an art piece — were presented to the participant, who could print the artwork on the spot and take it home as a physical memento. No logins. No data collection. No friction. Walk up, answer a few questions, leave with something genuinely yours.

The design philosophy prioritised delight over demonstration. The AI was in the background. The experience was in the foreground.

The Output

The AI Music Factory was the most-talked-about activation at Xerocon London, generating significant organic social content as attendees shared their personalised tracks and prints. The activation won a Shorty Award for innovation in AI experience design and was covered by Campaign Brief. It proved that generative AI — when thoughtfully designed — can create genuinely personal moments at scale, without any of the friction that typically accompanies enterprise AI deployments.
