An independent creative studio wanted the rights to adapt a Chinese Wuxia property into a short-form drama series. For the pitch, I made two AI-assisted concept trailers: one for the drama, and one for a fighting game that shows where the IP could go next.

The Brief
Wuxia is a genre of Chinese fiction about martial artists, honour, loyalty, revenge and the pursuit of justice, usually set among wandering heroes, rival clans and highly stylised combat. The studio was pitching to a Wuxia IP holder for the rights to turn one of its properties into a short-form drama series.
The team came from traditional creative and production work and had little experience with AI. To strengthen the pitch, they needed visual material that showed the creative direction, the tone and the potential of their adaptation.
The Approach
I came on to develop and produce AI-assisted visual concepts with the studio. The main piece was a cinematic trailer that brings the drama concept to life. Alongside it, I made a separate Wuxia fighting game concept trailer to show how the property could extend beyond the screen.
The point was never visual novelty. It was to show the studio how AI production workflows let them prototype ambitious ideas quickly, build stronger pitch materials and explore directions that would usually take far more time and production resources.
The Output
The studio took two finished concept trailers into its pitch: one for the drama it wants to make, and one for a game that shows how the IP could grow. Both show ideas that a traditional production would need significantly more time and budget to put on screen.
Frequently asked questions
What is Wuxia?
Wuxia is a genre of Chinese fiction centred on martial artists, honour, loyalty, revenge and the pursuit of justice, often set in a world of wandering heroes, rival clans and highly stylised martial arts.
What did the AI trailers do for the pitch?
The drama trailer showed the IP holder the creative direction, tone and potential of the proposed short-form series. The fighting game trailer showed how the property could expand beyond the screen.
Can a studio with no AI experience use AI for pitch material?
Yes. This studio came from a traditional production background. Kurt Loy developed and produced the AI-assisted concepts with them, showing how AI workflows can prototype ambitious ideas quickly for a pitch.
